Lolita-ness and boredom

So, I made rainbow cupcakes saturday night, and they are tasty, but they were not the start of my cute-craze. See, on my calendar, Tuesday, June 5th is marked "If it gets to this date and I still have 2-300 dollars unallocated cash, I am buying myself a proper lolita outfit.", blue-green text and all. I have the money- now it's time to buy the clothes. Until I actually buy them however, I still have my SweetMildred dress, and my green dress I made in fashion design class.I also just got some really pretty cotton lace, which will be an epic overskirt when I'm done :)

I require dinner now...

FEED and DEADLINE

spoilers for Deathly Hallows, not just Deadline....

So...I finally got around to reading FEED about a month ago. SPOILERS and ZombiesCollapse )I discovered about 15% in that I really hate the kindle...but I couldn't stop reading until I finished, so I read all twenty six chapters plus the last little (evil) preview in less than 2 days.(I received Deadline 8-ish friday night. I finished about 11 his morning. then, I read all the snippets. They are wonderful. I'm being lent some Seanan Mcguire books soon, I hope....)

Invisible Children...

So, charity thing (small chance that anyone will see this here, but hey, it can't hurt). Invisible children is a charity helping Uganda(and now three other Central East African countries) fight against the LRA, a terrorist group that abducts children from remote villages in order to brainwash them and put them in their child army. The LRA is led by a man named Joseph Kony, who has been destroying lives for 25 years, having abducted over 600,000 children and displaced over 2 million people. Last year, Invisible Children got a bill through congress- this year, they want to stop the violence once and for all.

(no subject)

I've been told many times that I should write more, and more often. So, you are invited to read my ramblings.

I googled my username, and was rather amused when 7 of the first ten were me- I guess I picked well, for a name that's really not obscure. Ayriannah is just a name. It's a reference to a D&D game I was in for a while (and now, an unintentional but amusng Harry potter reference) Sites that allow long usernames get the full name, (the first half a game reference, the second an obvious and intentional HP reference) AyriannahOllivandra, but that's 19 characters. If spaces are allowed, it's twenty.

Why do I like long names so much? Twenty characters for eight syllables, with every extra letter I could fit in amused me when I made it, and now it's such an ingrained habit that it would be silly to change. The most important question here, however, is why am I typing out the history of my username at 11 o'clock at night when I should really be trying to sleep? Or, at least, writing something I'm supposed to, like chemistry homework or a new chapter of the fanfiction I haven't updated in months. In fact, I think that's what I'll do. This is a very strange way to talk to yourself, I suppose... but i can write like no one's listening without feeling like I do when there actually IS no one listening, because feeling insane is not so much with the happy. I talk too much. I'm not even TALKING and I talk too much.*eyeroll* at myself, i gues.

Dracorex Hogwartsia

I just wrote this whole thing only to have it all disappear. Stupid computer...This is the first time I have had both internet and a non-dead computer since the last day I posted.

Dracorex Hogwartsia is a dinosaur named after(need I even SAY it?) that was on exhibit at the Indianapolis Children's Museum. It was fun, but I wrote out this whole thing once, and I don't want to do it again, so I'm just going to say that I'm alive, and I should be home tomorrow night, and if you want details you know where to find me, I have a cell phone, goodnight.

Little bit late (sorry)

Hello...Its technically bee three days- I fell asleep writing this.

Tuesday(checking my computer to see the days of the week):
was kinda awesome. I played board games all day, watched a stupid movie and an awesome movie (I <3 Ever After), and we made cookies, and they kinda failed. There were two batches of cookies made- the first went perfectly....

Regular Spritz cookies, a new cookie press, and four children eager to decorate. We added purple food coloring for the last batch, nothing burnt, and it was a great hour and a half spent. The second batch, after the kids went to bed...not so much. First, we realized we had no baking chocolate (used the substitution on the back of the box), and then, we decided to edit one recipe instead of finding another actually intended to be used with chocolate.
Then the brand-new cookie press broke and we had to figure out how to use a pastry bag.

The cookies were bland and dry, and a lot of hassle... :(

Off the subject of cookies, however... the bedtime story for the six year olds was the first eight pages of Harry Potter and The Sorcerers Stone (read by me). :::happy:::

Wednesday:
We went swimming again-different pool, this one outside with more slides (and longer lines...), then, we went to tea at a teahouse. It was awesome(I had oolong ^.^). Then, we got back..and decided to try again with the whole baking things that are chocolaty...but this time, a brownie recipe we know works. The brownies are good, and we get to take then with us on the way back home :D.
everyone went for a nice walk around the neighborhood while the brownies cooked, except A to watch the brownies and B, who was eating dinner with a friend.

Three more pages of harry potter before bedtime. And singing.

Today:
...I woke up, went oh sh*t and wrote this. We will be leaving today, and packing and suchlike will be this morning. we hope to be gone by noon, but I haven't a clue where we're going.

In a house

Fort Laramie was...meh. befroe that, we actually made to stops- there are some areas where you can see the wagon ruts from the Oregon trail, and we looked at one of them. I was 97 degrees outside-we didn't stay long. Then, Fort Laramie was a 3 hour stop, fairly interesting, and the we finally arrived in our 5-day stopover point- Inside and comfy in a huge house belonging to B's sister, which is huge and currently contains 4 children, ages 6,6,8, and9, three adults, myself, and over the course of the two days we've been here, a visiting grandmother and the girl's father flying in from California.

We got here, ate dinner (finally, something other than burgers),and there was after-dinner baseball in the street. Yesterday, we went to a local creek, then to a local pizza place, and there was some sort of street fair between the food and the car- we got balloon butterfies for the E-monster and her cousin, and a huge hat for Elfie, then swam in the afternoon at a pool with this awesome slide, then played basebal until dinner.

Today was less eventful- Baseball in the morning, then kickball, and a buch of board games after lunch. We made mac and cheese from not-a-box for lunch, and went out for asian food (which turned out to be mostly sushi for dinner (mmmm...sushi...mine was this thing called Long Dragon Roll, and it was unagi on top of a california roll, and it tasted even more amazing than it looked))and then we got back and I realized I hadn't blogged in two days and I should before people get worried...so I did, and now, I'm sleepy. My G key is acting funny, and I'm rambling because I need sleep. Goodnight.

We came all the way to South Dakota for THAT?!?!

Quoting Elf-child at the sight of Mount Rushmore. It was amusing ^.^

Mitchell Arceodome was first, and we got free arrowheads and looked at cool fossils and generally enjoyed being inside, as it was raining. Then...Wall Drug...The Biggest Tourist trap in the midwest. After the overwhelming tides of KITCH... we left (thankfully), for the Badlands.

The Badlands were pretty- we have lots of pictures- we got there mid afternoon, and  we stayed nearby. After looking to the skies and seeing stormclouds, we decided that Motel is good, Campground is bad, and threw stuff in the room, then left for a cool info-video thing out under the stars- it was fascinating, but started at 9, and K-monster fell asleep halfway through. After we got back to the room, we were going to play chess, but everyone was asleep within three minutes, so THAT didn't happen.

The next morning, we spent about two hours wandering around the park by car and foot, taking pictures, and eventually leaving. We did get one awesome thing that few people get- A view of the small herd of Bison that live in the park. There are less than 2000, but we definitely found them, and spent an extra few minutes stopped just looking- sorry no pictures, they were too far away for the cameras.

Drove to Mont Rushmore, and Elfie said her quote, and they really did seem tiny on that cliffside. There was a little tour thing which was fun, then we left for Crazy Horse. Even if it is barely started(over 40 years barely started, but they've only finished his head), it was much more impressive- the entirety of Mount Rushmore's carving would fit inside his head. Wind cave was next on the itinerary, but it was 6:34 by the time we got there, and the last tour started at 6. We raced the sun (and lost) on the road to Douglas, WY. Setting up the tent in the dark(only to discover that all of the stuff in the roofrack, from the tent to the rainfly to all of the sleeping bags were damp from the rain the day before) was no fun, and sleeping in the cold, wet bags wasn't any either. Morning came and most of everything is dry now, though. We're to be staying in a house tonight, with washing machines for the bags though, so everything should work itself out. Next stop: Fort Laramie

...nom?

required to post every 2 days, so here goes....
After breakfast, we got back on the road. spending many hours in the car. Then, the wildlife prairie state park where we discovered that Erin lost her water bottle...and saw some grey wolves (they were adorable).

Then, we drove. And drove. There were windfarms. And driving. A lot of it.

We finally set up the tent for the first time, which was fun while the sun was setting(not- it went much better yesterday) then ate dinner at a Village Inn...and then...WALMART (gasps of horror). over an hour was wasted wandering, and we only bought a blanket and a pair of shoes for the older child...no water bottle (there is a spare sippy cup though, and that is the embarrassment factor).

A lack of planning led to us setting up the sleeping bags in the dark.(we fixed that last night, too). after getting to bed past midnight, we got up, ate breakfast and (wait for it) more driving.

Then, we went to this science center, which was awesome- we spent 4 hours there, then drove on. Mid drive, we decided that there was time and went farther than expected, camping last night in Sioux falls instead of Sioux City. The tent went up in half the time, and much easier, then we ate dinner(and are now finishing breakfast) at a Perkins(two different ones...but the same restaurant). We left late this morning, but expect the reach the Badlands on schedule because we made up time last night.

French Toast is tasty.

So...nothing much since yesterday, but lunch finished, we continued to drive on. There is a DVD player in the car, so we watched Mary Poppins, then the zoo(Red pandas are adorable), then I convinced the girls to watch Princess Diaries because the Queen is Mary Poppins 40 years later :p (they now insist on watching the second one this morning).

Good news: We ate dinner at a place called Golden Jersey Inn, and ate icecream, and it was amazing.

Bad news: we spend two hours instead of one, and wound up at our next destination (the home of one of Betsy's friend from WAY TOO LONG in the past), at 11:30.

four little girls, four little chinchillas, and four other people sleeping in a huge house at midnight....and waking up at 9. Tasty food, nothing else of interest for now...
